June 30, 2022: Michael’s Record Collection
For this episode I welcome back to the show Brian Colburn, an Americana artist from New Jersey and the co-host of the popular Playlist Wars podcast. Brian and I have a shared love of the Precious Time album by Pat Benatar. With the 1981 album serving as our favorite Benatar record, we took the opportunity to spin it a few times and go through it track by track.

We are closing the 1999 Yearbook with the MTV Films classic Varsity Blues. While we all love this movie, especially Giff, we have recruited a special guest who probably even loves it more, Gomez from the podcast Playlist Wars! Hear his pop culture influences through the years and why this movie has a special place in our lives.
We dig into every aspect of the movie, from the whipped cream bikini, to the trip to the strip club, to uncanny way everyone knows plays they have never run before. April 11, 2022: Soundtrack Your Life
Brian Colburn of the Playlist Wars podcast stops by to talk about his favorite movie, Tom Hanks’ 1996 film, That Thing You Do. The film boasts the infectious award nominated hit single, “That Thing You Do”, written by the late Fountains of Wayne / Ivy / Tinted Windows bassist, Adam Schlesinger, who would go on to write for various other films and TV shows, including the Emmy Award winning, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
Beyond the title track from the film, we dive in to contributions from Dave Gibbs (Gigolo Aunts), who also went to have an illustrious career outside of his band, and we discuss the many songwriting contributions from none other than Tom Hanks, himself!
We also chat about the record label in the film that became a real record label specializing in soundtracks and we share some of our favorite Schlesinger penned tunes in mini-playlist form!

This week we’re scratching an Itch we never want to have to, but we’re not doing it alone. Our friend Brian Colburn of Playlist Wars joins us to revisit some of our favorite Taylor performances with Foo Fighters. Along the way, we’ll hear from fellow podcast friends Podioslave, TrawlCast, Prisoners of Rock and Roll, and the Infectious Groove with their tributes to a legend. I welcome Alex Gomez from the entertaining and unique Playlist Wars podcast. They’ve got a fantastic show with good guests and an interesting premise and every episode brings something a little different. Gomez was kind enough to tell me how he and Brian Colburn got the show started and then we dive into his favorite record: Meteora by Linkin Park. This second album by the band came out in 2003 and is well outside my comfort zone, but I did enjoy exploring it to find what I liked about it and what other people see in this band. Thanks to Gomez for challenging me to step outside my usual wheelhouse.
